False Sense of Maturity

“My Mom’s Final Decree”

Paul F. Tompkins mom changes her mind about homosexuality and religion in her last days.

This is so great…for many reasons, but it is awesome how humble and non-prideful his mom was even in her last days! And was able to change her mind on topics/beliefs of such grandeur!

I really like that. The mother really reminds me of myself — I’ve changed my mind numerous times about The Big Questions of Life and am continually amazed by the way people react.

“You ‘changed your mind?’ But that means…you don’t feel the same way now that you did 3 years ago! How can I ever trust you again? I can’t cope with the idea that you have one opinion on something today, and that some time in the future, you could change it to something else!”

It was especially interesting that many of those reactions came from friends who were the same age as me — 14 or so! And years later I’d encounter these people and it was as though they’d taken a can of shellac and sprayed themselves from head to toe with it. Perish the thought they should actually use their brains, analyze a situation from every angle and then ask themselves if they still felt exactly the same way.

As far as I’m concerned, changing your mind is very good evidence that you have one.

Cheers, and thanks for sharing that!

No prob… thanks for the input. I agree and see the same thing in others from my past…stuck, not able to grow because: they’ve learned everything already…it’s in their black book and easy to reference. I had to post this video when I saw it…it being so very on topic. It’s like…when do we all STOP believing in Santa? Even if we are 8 years old at the time… We receive input from others…we weigh the evidence (flying reindeer…) and make a decision. Why deprive ourselves of this ability throughout life, because of ‘faith’?? Thanks!
