Utah bans sale of Some Alcoholic Drinks

by DSTroy on Sep.30, 2008, under Political

What happened to separation of church and state? Apparently in Utah, church is making a comeback.

On Wednesday, Utah will be the only state to ban the sale of fruity alcoholic drinks at grocery stores and convenience stores in an effort to keep them from minors. Those drinks also must have new state-approved labels on the front of the product that contain capitalized letters in bold type telling consumers the drinks contain alcohol and at what percentage. …
Some manufacturers have already decided it’s not worth it to produce new labels just for Utah. “Thanks to the Legislature, Smirnoff Ice is no longer available in Utah,” said Zsoka McDonald, spokeswoman for Diageo, one of the world’s largest multinational beer, wine and spirits firms. “It’s just not cost effective.”

Keep in mind; this is only ‘fruity’ drinks. Bud light will still be on the shelf? Does any of this make sense?

From Sarah Palin’s own lips

by DSTroy on Sep.30, 2008, under Fresh News, Political

Sorry for so many video posts, but that’s where the news is right now. This one I’ll just post to the right but check out what Sarah Palin had to say to Katie Couric about Joe Biden’s Experience:

“…a lot of experience, and just stating fact that we’ve been hearing his speeches for all these years he has a tremendous amount of experience and I have the new energy the new face the new ideas and he’s got the experience based on many, many years in the Senate and voters are gonna have a choice as to what it is they want in these next four years.”

“The God Delusion” Makes A Family Guy Cameo

by Ron Gold on Sep.29, 2008, under Religulous

You can tell that all of the recent books about atheism have gone mainstream when an immature scatological fest like Family Guy uses Richard Dawkin’s The God Delusion in the plot of it’s newest episode. It turns out that Brian the dog is an atheist (or as religious people might say, this just reaffirms that animals don’t have souls.) He meets a girl while buying The God Delusion, and several bad atheism puns ensue. You can watch the full episode here if you’re interested.

Who Was The Master Debater?

by Ron Gold on Sep.27, 2008, under Political

Like many people, I watched the first presidential debate between McCain and Obama last night.  Since I watched it in a crowded room filled with lots of crosstalk and a moderate amount of drinking, I wasn’t able to focus on everything, but I saw enough to make some observations.

With McCain being down in the polls, and already losing the debate about whether to debate, you have to figure he needed a strong performance to close the gap.  I was sort of expecting Obama to dominate, but I think McCain mostly held his own.  However, the night was at best a tie for McCain, and that’s simply not good enough for the trailing candidate.

The night was shorter on memorable moments than I had hoped.  All that stands out today is the stupid competition on who had the better bracelet, and moderator Jim Lehrer telling them to look at each other when talking, which was degrading and childish to all parties involved.  The one issue that I though Obama did much better on was the argument over negotiations.  McCain insisted preconditions were necessary, but I don’t think there was any logic behind his point.

Hopefully the next debate will be more interesting.  They both seemed to get pretty angry last night, but never to the point where an entertaining shouting match ensued.  Now that would be fun to watch.

McCain’s Decision Making Abilities

by DSTroy on Sep.26, 2008, under Political

Ok, this is just me and my observations over the last few political days. McCain has vowed to suspend his campaign until congress has agreed on an economic agenda. Wait; slow down McCain, or should I say catch up? If you want us to crunch the numbers we will. (Just so happens that of ALL the congressmen/women he has shown up for the least amount of votes this year.) So why did he not suspend his campaign silently, and fly to Washington and get to work? Or if he was thinking; call one of his congressman buddies to announce the urgency of the matter and that bipartisanship is needed during these times? (Which was already a sound bite from many in congress.) Instead of making it a partisan issue by interjecting a political stunt.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed: Terrorist & Attorney

by Ron Gold on Sep.24, 2008, under Fresh News

Yesterday, the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed got underway. Mohammed is probably known for the above photo as much as he is for being the September 11th mastermind. He has decided to serve as his own attorney, and I think he made some surprisingly good points considering he’s probably insane:

Glaring at Judge Ralph Kohlmann from beneath bushy eyebrows and a black turban, Mohammed pressed the Marine colonel to explain how he could provide a fair trial as a member of the U.S. Armed Forces that are at war with al-Qaida.

“How can you, as an officer of the U.S. Marine Corps, stand over me in judgment?” Mohammed, who is acting as his own lawyer, asked in English. “How can you be unbiased, given your position?”

Limbaugh Repeats Myth That Obama Is Arab

by DSTroy on Sep.23, 2008, under Political, Videos

Read about it here…just another smear attempt. When will these right-winged conservatives play fair. Yet they preach! He completely mis-quotes someone to smear another. That is slander on two counts.

Ben Smith paints his own picture

by DSTroy on Sep.23, 2008, under Fresh News, Political, Videos

How is this not biased thinking? This pin-head at politico.com, Ben Smith is talking smack without thinking things through. “Biden garbles Depression history” … Wow, how closely did he watch the interview? I removed the commentary and posted just the interview so you can make up your own mind.

“When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed,” Biden told Couric. “He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.’”

So He misspoke! Did you hear his first words or any of his other words Ben?
